I just don't get it

Posted by Fio.

I weighed myself this morning, and I'm one pound UP!
What the heck is up with that??? I've been good. I've only had ONE piece of chocolate in a week.
I need a new bathroom scale, because this one is ruining my confidence!

Report from a proud dieter

Today I did rather well!
I had a strawberry smoothie for breakfast (150 calories), a pasta salad for lunch (home made and low fat since I used a vinaigrette dressing, not too many calories) and I had a pita bread with salmon, vegetables and rice for dinner (still not that many calories). I even walked three miles after work!
All well so far.
Then I filled out my tax return papers and I celebrated the good work with a glass of wine and a chocolate praline (dark chocolate praline filled with prunes, marzipan and Madeira wine....number of calories unknown but then who's counting? ;-)
So why am I still proud, you might ask?
Because my tax returns happens only once a year, and I think that some things should be celebrated. Having done the paperwork of tax returns definitely calls for a celebration in my book. It's so boring that the only thing that can get me through it is the thought of something good afterwards.
And nothing beats wine and dark chocolate!

I have seen the light

To be honest, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that I need to change my diet. One glance in the mirror will do!

I did a Google search for "diet", and got 160 000 000 hits! So I did a search for "hunger", and got 33 900 000 hits. See the irony?

I started thinking about all this talk about a possible rice shortage. How much rice do we actually eat? In 2007 I probably bought a pound or two of rice, and half of it is still in my pantry. Why? Because I don't eat that much rice. People who eat much rice, are usually thin (- and I don't care what the famous low carb dieters say. Look to Japan and countries where people eat a lot of rice. Do they look fat to you?)

Like most people in this part of the world, I prefer pasta, white bread and - you probably guessed it already - ice cream. It's a diet for disaster. Don't get me wrong, I don't want everyone running to the store and buy the last bag of rice. It's not that I think I need to eat a lot of rice. I just need to eat less refined carbohydrats. I tried whole wheat pasta once but it was horrible. It could have been the cook, but it's not something I care to try again in the near future. So in these times of rice shortage, I was thinking "bulgur". Bulgur is good for you, right?

According to Wikipedia, bulgur contains more nutritients than rice. It's made from durum wheat, and is a key ingredient in many dishes from The Mediterranean, Turkish, Indian and The Middle Eastern kitchen. I love food from these countries, and I'm willing to give it a shot. (Heck, I'm desperate to loose weight. I'll try anything!)

Enough is enough!

Too much food. Too many meals in restaurant, and way too little exercise.
That's me.
I'm 37 years old and I'm at least 30 pounds overweight.
Overweight. I hate that word. I prefer Undertall.
Either way, I need to loose the extra fat. And I'm starting today!

I did good for breakfast. I had a banana and strawberry smoothie. Lunch was good also, with a small salad and one crisp bread with Gouda cheese.
I walked three miles when I came home from work, and I made myself a grilled vegetable pita bread for dinner. At that point I was so proud of myself, I celebrated with ice cream. Mint Chocolate. My favourite.

Let's just say, tomorrow brings a new day with new possibilities. At least I exercised today, and that counts, right?
